Welcome to Open Door Psychology Inc. and I am Julie DeRose, a Registered Psychologist, and owner. I have been in the counselling field for nearly 10 years, and before that, a teacher in both Calgary and Edmonton.

Since I can even remember, I knew I wanted to be in a profession where I was helping people, and that was the main reason I went into Education. I loved working with students, from kindergarten to high school, and then quickly pursued a Master’s in Counselling, with a goal of being a school counsellor.

After years of this career path, I moved into private practice where I began seeing individuals, couples, and families, and supporting them with a range of presenting concerns.

With my experience in education, I am very comfortable working with children as young as five, supporting them with personal, academic, and social challenges. In addition, I am passionate about supporting post- high school graduates with next steps, such as post-secondary, moving out, and all that comes with moving from adolescence into adulthood.

I am also skilled in supporting adults, couples and families with a range of concerns, from family dynamics, mental health, anxiety, depression, burn-out, sleep struggles, life transitions, grief, loss, divorce, parenting, single parenting, pre and post-natal, postpartum anxiety/depression, stress, relationship breakdowns, expectations, gender identity, sexual identity, and many other areas. I support all individuals and am inclusive in my practice to all religions, cultures, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identification, and disabilities.

I myself, have two children, aged 9 and 6, and also a single parent. My experience with counselling not only comes for an academic lens, but also lived experience. I am keenly aware of the stress life can put on us and all the different hats we need to wear throughout the day. Finding time for ourselves can be hard because of these demands, and this is why I love therapy so much, because the time that you are in session is for YOU! I am here to support you, your family, your relationship, and/or child(ren) with evidence-based approaches, tailoring my approach to the needs of each client.

Some of my interests include spending time with family, watching documentaries, cooking, finding new restaurants/cafes in the city, and when I have time, travelling!

I look forward to meeting you, either virtually or in-person, to support your therapeutic journey. Hope to chat soon!
